Ispen Greenshield, a dear ally and friend has passed. You’ve been invited to his funeral happening near the town of Vogler, located on the eastern coast of Solamnia. Your travel there was slowed due to encounters with draconic like creatures. Upon arriving, you meet a couple of his old adventuring partners, Becklin Uth Viharin, a knight of Solamnia, and Ridomir “Cudgel” Ironsmile. The service was short and sweet. After everyone met at Brass Crab, and enjoyed a night of drink and stories of Greenshield. Everyone but one man had fond memories. This particular man, Bakaris Uth Estide or “Bakaris the Younger”, seemed to only care for free drinks and a fun night.
The next day Becklin invites you to her keep and you meet Darrett Highwater, her squire. She informs you that the next day is the Kingfisher Festival, and you should attend and enjoy to the fullest. The fish pies are a local delicacy.

Festival is a city wide event. Even the Mayor leaves her duties for the day and immerses herself into the festivities. Vogler is a fishing village and the Kingfisher Festival is one dedicated to the sea and all its bounty. The local bird a kingfisher is the mascot, and its image is sewn into every tapestry that adorns the streets. There are a few games going on. One such is a fishing contest, where you meet the Mayor, the Champion for the past 2 years running. You try the fish pie, and it’s something only a local would enjoy, as it’s main ingredient is smelly fish.
The high point of the festival is a reenactment of a famous battle near Vogler called, The Battle of High Hill. You’re asked to participate as honored guests, and led to the battle site. The opposing army is made up of mercenaries from Cudgel’s own troops. You’re outfitted with blunt spears and swords along with the other villagers taking part. During the reenactment, you notice something isn’t right about the cries and sounds of battle. The cries of pain are not fake. The opposing “army” are attacking the townsfolk!! During the new Battle of High Hill, you take down a half ogre that is leading the mercenaries. The aftermath is a tragedy that’ll be told in Vogler for generations.
That night you help with the clean up, and interrogation of a captured enemy. Cudgel swears she had nothing to do with the betrayal, and wants to get to the bottom of this quickly as possible. You learn that the half orge had taken money from an unknown person and hired the “opposing army”. The mayor sends out hunters to scout the area for this mystery person. That seems to be the extent of what can be done for now.
Late morning the hunters return with grave news. A large force is camped several miles north of Vogler. It’s organized and well guarded. The enemy consists of humans and hooded reptilian figures with wings. You describe the draconic creatures you met on your journey here. The Mayor, Becklin, and yourself all agree that the person must be from this large force, and they are ready to siege Vogler. You discuss defense and evacuation of the citizens who are unable to fight. The main obejective being evacuation. You offer to fight and give the citizens time to board ships bound to the closest city, The Beacon of the East, Kalaman.

You are given one day of light to prepare what you can for that night Vogler would be no more. The attack was decisive and violent. These winged creatures glided from the nearby cliffs into the city in droves, and easily overrun the fishers turned soldiers. You held the dock against waves of these creatures. Fires burned throughout Vogler and a machine could be heard moving closer to your location. A building nearby explodes in flame and debris.
The evil contraption comes into view, a dragon shaped machine that spewed out a line of flame. You quickly rushed to destroy it, and found yourself face to face with the same creatures you encountered before. Another crash is heard back at the dock. A large creature size of a small house stands before. A full bred ogre eating a large fish and tosses a dead villager at you. “Them next.” It says, to the draconic creatures flanking it. Your teamwork and quick thinking did not fail you this night. The ogre fell, but sadly Vogler, the small quaint village, is completely aflame.
The docks supports are begging you to escape the towns fate, and get on your boat. The last boat is being defended by Darret and the mayor. You jump onboard and push off. The creature give no chase and delight in the razing of Vogler. Every pair of eyes in the escaping night are turned to their once home, and tears form as they vow vengeance.
